Art to Beat Cancer: Maryland Shore

In July 2011, my wife Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kim is winning her battle. She is winning with the help of the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville.

We will always be indebted to the providers at the Brown Cancer Center for what they have done for Kim. That is why the proceeds from every painting I sell will be donated to this incredible, life-saving place.

The fight against cancer is one of the most daunting challenges facing Americans today. And nowhere in the U.S. is that battle raging more fiercely than here in Kentucky. We lead the nation in the number of people stricken by this disease. And we lead the nation in the number of cancer related deaths.

The Brown Cancer Center has been working hard to change this. And it has. The Center's mission is to relieve Kentuckians' disproportionate burden of pain and suffering caused by this disease. This has been accomplished

through state-of-the-art clinical, research, education and outreach programs. Over the past 30 years, the BCC has become home to some of the best scientists and physicians anywhere- delivering many exciting breakthroughs and the highest level clinical care.

Throughout it all, the BCC's original goals remain at the heart of its mission. The Brown Cancer Center will:

1) Deliver the latest medical advances to its patients.

2) Raise the standard of cancer care in Kentucky.

3) Generate new knowledge that helps not just cure cancer, but prevent it in future generations.

4) Address the prevalence and impact of cancer on Kentuckians through outreach and prevention programs.
